Happy Juno Weekend to all the Canadian Music Fans out there. Especially those in Millbrook and surrounding area who must be tickled this morning the hear that their own Serena Ryder picked up her second trophy last night in the non-televised portion of the awards show for Best Adult Alternative Album for the CD ‘Is It OK’.
Some other early winners last night include The Stills for New Group of the Year and Alt Album of the Year, Sam Roberts for Rock Album, The Barenaked Ladies for Childrens’ Album in spite of Steven Page giving a whole new meaning to snacktime last year and the band’s subsequent breakup. Alanis Morrisette even scored a jagged little Juno for Pop album of the year.
On that note, I’m going to do something that is quintessentially Canadian. That is, I’m going to get all excited over the fact that and American celebrity is acknowledging our existence, our music and culture. Beyonce Knowles kicked off the Canadian Leg of her ‘I Am Sasha Fierce’ Tour at Rexall Place in Edmonton and altered her set list to include an angry little tune I’ve always held near and dear. Check out this footage from the show.
She also did a cover of Sarah McLachlan’s Angel later on the evening but I just love how she made the audience say the F-Word part of You Oughta Know!
Congratulations to Serena Ryder for her early Juno win last night and good luck this evening with the Artist of the Year nomination!
