I was happy to see a member of the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police downtown the other day on a bicycle .
Personally, I want to see more bike and foot patrol in the downtown core. I can imagine the force is stretched to the limit just maintaining current services. They do a great job. But having more cops walking and riding the beat, especially downtown, and at any given hour of the day or night, would send a strong message to those who have nothing better to do than loiter, break into vehicles or drink down by Jackson's Creek.
Speaking of loitering, what's with the constant gaggle standing in front of Tim Horton's on George Street across from the Holiday Inn? I've noticed the store is piping classical music through the outside speaker. My guess is that it's meant to irritate the patrons who want to stand or sit there for hours. If so, it's not working.
Maybe a beat patrol cop should come along and tell them to 'move along.'
