Steak Is Over !!

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Well after over 1,000 straight games of calling Petes hockey my steak came to an end this past Saturday when the Petes headed to Erie. For the first time since I took over the play by play duties I was not there to call the game as I was out of town getting ready to make my debut on TSN2 calling the Toronto Rock games. I wasn't sure how I would feel about tuning into the game but I was so busy  preparing for the NLL telecast that I didn't really have time to think about it.

Also  I think because Thursday's game vs Barrie was so busy with the entire Pink in the Rink night that it didn't set in that it would be my last game of the streak. All good things must come to an end at some point and

In the end when I tuned in on www.kruzfm.ca from my Calgary hotel room I felt much better as it was half way through the first period and my dad Gary along with long time Examiner hockey guru Mike Davies were sounding great. Thanks guys along with our intern Noah Crowley for doing such a great job. I understand they had a long day with a long wait at the border and arriving late to the arena. Man you go away for one game in 14 years and look what happens !!

The fact that a Dalliday was still calling the action made me feel good too, one would think someone in your own family wouldn't steal your job while you are away so I think I'm ok to return this Thursday.

BTW: Congrats as well to Mike who now owns "The Streak" all to himself. Mike has not missed a single Petes game since 1995. Some coach's over the years after reading his articles thougth perhaps he was at a different game but in fact he has been at every game home and away for 15 years....Before I go I also wanted to thank the powers to be here at Kruz FM for allowing me to take a step up to the pros this month and do the TSN2 Rock games...
