The principal of a Utah middle school has been asked to apologize for forcing a kilt-wearing student to change his clothes.
The 14-year old boy wore it as part of an "art" project, but the principal told him that the outfit could be misconstrued as cross-dressing. Okay...so maybe you don't see a lot of kilts down in Utah...but the principal has since learned a little bit about Scottish heritage (forced to listen to Danny Boy on the bagpipes for 2 hours straight...fed haggus...and shown how to toss a caber!) and has apologized.
But, it reminds me of a situation I had in high school.
It was mid-June...it was stinkin' hot...and there was a dress code at Almonte and District High School. Guys could not wear shorts to class. Girls could wear skirts - - they were even allowed to wear mini-skirts. But guys could not wear shorts.
So...to get around it....Patrick Shannon (a rebel who borderlined on being a genius)....ripped the crotch seam out of his Almonte Thunderbolts gym shorts and went to class. When the teacher asked him to leave the classroom for violating the dress code...Patrick proudly stood up and pleaded his case...."I'm not wearing shorts. It's a mini skirt"!
Didn't work - - Patty did "hard time" down at the principal's office. I give him points for trying though.
