I Was Right...It Was Interesting
Friday, December 04, 2009
Anybody know where I can get one of those t-shirts from the new Scotiabank tv commercial, where the husband rips off his shirt to reveal a red t-shirt proclaiming: "I Was Right"?!!!
As I stated in my previous blog entry, I had this feeling that maybe (just maybe) the Christmas tree that we came home with Monday night was a little on the (ummmmmm) "big" side. My first clue was when I had to hoist the 9-foot tall Balsam Behemoth on top of the truck. Because it was all wrapped up, there was no way of telling just how big it really was. But, I knew that it definitely felt heavier than any other conifer that we had ever taken home before.
Fast forward to Wednesday night. We discovered that our tree really was, in fact, a little too "beefy" -- the diameter of the trunk wouldn't even go in our tree stand.
You know, there comes a time in every man's life when he must swallow his pride...and tie a Christmas tree back onto the truck...and return it! Unfortunately for me, this is the second time in my life I've been subjected to such humility (although, the first time was perhaps worse, because I had picked one that was deemed way too small. Yes, I have come to the realization that size matters...when it comes to Christmas trees). So, if you're looking for a ginormous balsam fir to adorn your home...there's one back on the lot at Mark Street Church. Tell them Dale sent you. You won't get any kind of a discount...but I'm sure they'll get another laugh out of it.
Anyway, the new "size-appropriate" tree is now standing in our living room....at least until the cat finally knocks it over. In the meantime, he just seems to be happy with a new source of drinking water from the tree stand.
Maybe this weekend I'll put on a Christmas wool sweater...pour an egg nog...and gaze at our terrific Tanenbaum - - trying to drown the painful memories of this year's Tree Crisis.
Cheers.
