Peterborough’s annual, fun family event,

Saturday January 23, 2010, from 9:00 am to 11:45 am at Peterborough Square. Free activities for children will include crafts, refreshments, readings by local celebrities and the Cat In The Hat, singing for literacy, a musical puppet show with children’s entertainer Rob Joy, meet favourite storybook characters Clifford the Big Red Dog and Geronimo Stilton and much more. One of the most exciting features is that every child attending will receive a free book, as long as supplies last.

Look out for the Readers’ Theater, a favourite, involving local leaders and personalities. Mike Melnik, host of the popular KRUZ Morning Show, is the Family Literacy Day 2010 Honourary Chair and MC. “Mike is an excellent Honorary Chair!” said Committee Co-chair Teresa Kerr. “He knows the community, has a personal interest in literacy and is an articulate and witty MC”.

Peterborough Family Literacy Day is an annual free event that brings together hundreds of local families for a morning of fun-filled literacy activities. At the 2009 celebrations over 600 children and their parents enjoyed the fun and over 400 children received a brand new book to read and enjoy for their very own. The Peterborough Family Literacy Day increases awareness of literacy services in the City and County of Peterborough. It offers information on resources for adults and families with children of all ages.
