The Youth for Youth Variety Show

 

is put on by St. Peter’s SS and Holy Cross SS in support of the Youth Emergency Shelter.  This is a significant fund raising activity for the shelter.

The Peterborough Social Planning Council

 

will host an International Feast with dishes from around the world donated by local restaurants, as well as live entertainment and raffles, on Saturday, May 2 at Trinity United Church

(Simcoe Street entrance) 6-9pm.    The dinner is in support of the Council’s

ongoing community work.    Tickets, at $15, are available at Titles

Bookstore or PSPC - 187 Simcoe Street.

 

 

The Peterborough Children's Chorus

St. Andrew's United Church

 

at Rubidge & Brock Sts. is participating in the 6th Annual Abraham Festival on Sun. April 26 at 11 am. This is  a regular service providing an opportunity for a spiritual encounter with another faith.  Please come and join us at our Sunday morning service.

 

The Rt. Rev. David Giuliano, moderator of the United Church of Canada will be at St. Andrew's, Monday, April 27 at 1:30 pm. for a brief service of worship in which he will speak and answer questions.

The Putting Your Affairs in Order Workshop Series final presentation is April 29 at 7 pm.  The topic is Healthy Grieving & Funeral Planning:

What Helps.  The speakers are Rev. Joanna MacQuarrie minister of St.

Andrew's UC and Rev. Lyle Horne, representing Hospice Peterborough.

 

 

WHISKY NOSING EVENT – PETERBOROUGH HISTORICAL SOCIETY

 

Mark Friday, May 1st, 2009 on your calendar for the Peterborough Historical Society’s Whisky Nosing event to raise funds for its Hutchison House.  Join us at 7:00 p.m. at Hutchison House to meet and greet.   Following that our piper will lead the parade of kilts to the Knights of Columbus Hall where the fun will begin.

 

The Peterborough Scottish Country Dancers will be performing some demonstration dances (you too can join in), followed by our Whisky Nosing experts, presenting three unique and distinct whiskys  for your appreciation.   For those that are not whisky fans, wine will be available.   The evening will finish off with delicious Scottish fare.

 

Tickets are $40.00 for PHS members and $45.00 for others and can be purchased at Hutchison House or by calling Peterborough Historical Society at 740-2600

Get your tickets early as there are limited numbers available and you don’t want to miss this great event.

 

 

2009 YWCA Freedom Walk

 

The walk, which will be held at Nicholl’s Oval Park Pavilion on Saturday,   May 2nd,   is a family-friendly activity with food and refreshments, entertainment, prizes—and most importantly, the chance to raise funds for a very important cause: helping women and children in our community escape domestic violence!

 

Participants can take a 2 km stroll, or a 5 or 10 km walk along the Rotary Greenway Trail. Registration starts at 10:00am, and the walk begins at 10:30. There will be a lunch for the walkers from 11:30 to 1:30 pm with draw prizes and closing ceremonies as well.  There will be face painting, a children’s Fun Walk and for participants who raise over $100, the can choose either a Freedom Walk tote bag or another gift.

Baskin Robbins Canada Hosts 31 Cent Scoop Night

To Help Firefighters Build Permanent Memorial     

 

Save the date: April 29th is 31 Cent Scoop Night at all Baskin Robbins across Canada!  Local firefighters are teaming up with Baskin Robbins stores across the country to raise money to build a national memorial.  From 5-10pm a Junior Scoop of any flavour in the store or the new Soft Serve cone will cost only 31 cents.  This is a great chance to get out with friends and family and enjoy spring in your community with firefighters taking part in the celebration.  While enjoying your favourite ice cream explore the fire truck and chat with firefighters about the role they play in Canada and their hopes for an Ottawa monument.
